Matthew Broderick, better known as Ferris Bueller from the cult movie, is appearing in web ‘teases’ that will turn viral (I’m sure) in preparation for the commercial advertising Superbowl Sunday.

Word is that the commercial is going to be Ferris-Bueller-themed.

Here is what has been released :

It only goes for 10 seconds, but what do expect for a tease – a full length movie?

Correction to the orginal post:

The commercial is to advertise the 2012 Honda CRV on Superbowl Sunday. And here it is:

Woohoo – announced today. The Cure are coming back to Australia for vivid live festival in Sydney. Playing on the 31st May and 1st June, it’s sure to be be pretty special, especially considering ‘what’ they will be playing.

They will be playing three albums in their entirerty – namely Three Imaginary Boys (1979), Seventeen Seconds (1980), and Faith (1981). Any die hard Cure fans will absolutely love the playlist. There’s nothing better than songs like 10:15 Saturday Night, A Forest or Play for Today being played live.

Look at the line up of who will be appearing – Awesome to see Lol Tolhurst back for this tour:

Three Imaginary Boys (1979)
The Cure Trio: Robert Smith (voice & guitar), Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums)

Seventeen Seconds (1980)
The Cure Quartet: Robert Smith (voice & guitar), Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums), Roger O’Donnell (keys)

Faith (1981)
The Cure Quintet: Robert Smith (voice & guitar), Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums), Roger O’Donnell (keys & percussion), Laurence Tolhurst (keys & percussion)

The Cure are playing at the Opera House which is unusual and new to the band, but I noticed that the performance will be recorded for distribution and broadcast so expect to see DVDs released in the future. Pity their other Oz tours from years back haven’t been recorded because they have done some good ones – hang on, all of them have been good! And it is being advertised as a 180 minute concert.

Can’t wait for this, and look for another post here after the concerts to report how good it was as I’m definitely going!

Boy George has confirmed that Culture Club will reunite in 2012, and will do so with a world wide tour. This is great news for fans of this ‘new wave’ (?) group of the 80s.

Why next year? A couple of reasons – George is touring solo this year on his ‘Here and Now’ tour to promote his new album, and next year marks their 30 year anniversary as well as 10 years since their last reformation.

In 1981, Boy George occasionally sang with the group Bow Wow Wow under the stage name “Lieutenant Lush”. But after this formed his own band with ‘Kissing to be Clever’ their first album release.

Culture Club are probably best known for singles from their second album in 1983 (Colour by Numbers), namely ‘Church of the Poison Mind’ and ‘Karma Chameleon’.

For people that weren’t lucky(?) enough to experience the size of mobile phones in the 80s (I’ll leave the exorbitant running costs for another post), the mobilephone massif has created a cover/case for your iPhone. It’s not truely comparable to the bricks of yesteryear, but it’s the closest you will get to one (that actually still works).

Mick Jones, co-founder of Big Audio (with Don Letts) in 1985, has told the BBC that the band is reforming. They will be touring the UK in March and USA in April which is exiting news for B.A.D fans, and to a degree Clash fans too.

Even though the band itself did not stop in 1988, the original line up certainly did. But for the tour, Jones returns with co-songwriter and sample master Don Letts, drummer Greg Roberts, bassist Leo Williams, and keyboardist Dan Donovan.

Big Audio Dynamite lasted for five years and released four albums. Their biggest hit was the number one ‘Rush’ in 1991. While there is no talk of a new album yet, it is still early days and one can only hope.

The band have announced the following tour dates:

Tue 29 March O2 Academy, Liverpool
Wed 30 March O2 ABC, Glasgow
Thu 31 March O2 Academy, Newcastle upon Tyne
Sat 02 April O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London
Sun 03 April O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London
Wed 06 April Rock City, Nottingham
Thu 07 April O2 Academy, Leeds
Fri 08 April Manchester Academy (University), Manchester
Sat 09 April O2 Academy, Bristol
Sat 16 April The Coachella Festival, USA

Spandau Ballet played a reunion gig this week – their first in about 20 years in Dublin, Ireland.

Playing in front of around 9000 fans, all reports indicated that they put together a pretty good show in the 2 hours that they were up on stage for.

All the original guys were there, and the opening song was the classic ‘to cut a long story short’. The final song of the night was ‘true’, a song that Tony Hadley dedicated to the late Boyzone star, Stephen Gately. Stephen was a close friend of Tony’s.
